COMMON QUERIES

What can I expect in the first session? The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and to explore what has brought you to therapy. We will discuss your concerns, relevant background, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. It is also a chance for you to ask questions and decide whether the therapeutic fit feels right for you.
How long is each session? Sessions are generally 50-55 minutes.
How often will I need to attend therapy? This depends on your individual needs and goals. Many clients begin with weekly sessions, while others may attend fortnightly. Together, we decide on a pace that is appropriate and sustainable.
Do you offer online sessions? Yes—online therapy is available through secure and confidential video sessions, offering flexibility for clients who may prefer to meet remotely. This can be particularly helpful for those with busy schedules, frequent travel, or who live outside the immediate area. However, online therapy may not be the most appropriate option for every concern. Where in-person therapy would be more suitable, this would be discussed with you and appropriate recommendations or referrals would be made.
What issues do you help with? I work with adolescents, adults, and couples experiencing challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, burnout, grief, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and emotional distress. I also use BWRT® where appropriate for trauma and anxiety-related concerns.
Is therapy confidential? Yes. Therapy is confidential and your privacy is taken seriously. There are, however, certain legal and ethical limits to confidentiality, such as situations involving serious risk of harm to yourself or others, which will be explained clearly at the start of therapy.
Do you work with medical aids? Yes, we work with all registered medical aids and can claim directly from the scheme. Whether or not your medical aid will pay for the claim depends on your psychotherapy / mental health benefits according to your plan. It is good to check with your medical aid / broker ahead of time to understand what mental health benefits you have. You can also opt to pay cash for the session and then claim back from your medical aid using the invoice provided. Please note that you remain liable for your account if your medical aid rejects the claim.
What are your fees? Medical aid rates in 2026 vary between R1290 and R1450 per 51-60 minute session. The rate is determined by your medical scheme. A discount is offered to cash paying patients, provided the account is settled at or before the appointment time.
What happens if I can't make my appointment time? Please let us know if you are needing to reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice will incur a cancellation fee (the full cost of the session). Please note cancellation fees are not usually paid by medical aids.
What if I ’m not sure whether I need therapy? Many people begin therapy without being certain of what they need—only that something feels difficult, overwhelming, or unresolved. An initial session can help clarify what is going on and whether therapy would be helpful for your situation.
How do I book an appointment?
WHAT IS YOUR THERAPEUTIC APPROACH
My approach is broadly integrative, which means I draw from different therapeutic models depending on each client’s needs and goals. I work primarily from psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural (CBT) perspectives, helping clients understand both the deeper patterns that shape their experiences and the practical strategies that can support meaningful change. Therapy is tailored to each person’s unique journey rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.
DO YOU ONLY USE ONE KIND OF THERAPY?
No—therapy is adapted to the individual rather than limited to a single model. Different people benefit from different approaches at different times, so I aim to create a therapeutic process that is responsive, practical, and suited to your particular circumstances and concerns.
HOW DO I KNOW WHAT KIND OF THERAPY I NEED?
You do not need to know this before starting. Part of the therapeutic process is understanding what is contributing to your difficulties and identifying the most helpful way forward. In the first few sessions, we explore your concerns together and develop an approach that feels appropriate for your needs and goals.
